Why French feels hard

Gender and articles

Right under the word the card shows it with the article that gives away its gender: une trousse, un journal. You learn them together, not separately.

Pronunciation vs. spelling

Silent endings, nasal vowels, and liaisons cannot be learned by reading. Every card plays the word and the whole example and shows the transcription, so you hear each word many times over.

Conjugations everywhere

A French verb changes with every person and tense, and tables do not stick. On a card you meet the verb inside a sentence, in the form people actually use.
